Arenas Joins CTJ as Color Guard Director

Chelsea Arenas

We are excited to welcome Chelsea Arenas to the Claudia Taylor Johnson Band Family as our Color Guard Director for 2022-23.

Chelsea comes to the CTJ Band after serving as the Color Guard Director at Union High School, a perennial Bands of America Grand National Finalist program in Oklahoma. Chelsea joins our guard faculty and will work alongside current Visual Director and Color Guard Supervisor, Darryl Pemberton. We envision the partnership between Chelsea and Darryl as similar to the one with Mr. Aaron Barnes, who runs the visual day-to-day operations of the marching band as our Visual Caption Manager.

Chelsea was a featured performer with the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps from 2008-2011, where she helped capture their 10th DCI national championship. Chelsea continued with the Cadets as an instructor in 2012 and 2013. Chelsea has also performed with the WGI World Class Champion Pride of Cincinnati during their 2010 and 2012 seasons. Most recently, Chelsea performed in Japan with “Blast, the Music of Disney” during the summer of 2016. In addition to her performing and public school roles, Chelsea was on staff with the Madison Scouts Drum Corps as an instructor and Caption Supervisor.

We are also thrilled that Jaclyn Jordan will return on the color guard instructional staff, and Keith Potter as a designer and visual programmer for the fall and winter programs. We believe this team will be a strong one to continue the tradition of excellence of our color guard program.

Chelsea and Darryl will be reaching out soon to the colorguard families about camp and the upcoming season. We will host a meet and greet for parents during colorguard camp week. If you have questions or concerns about the upcoming year, you may reach-out to Darryl and Chelsea as normal on the BandApp.
