The Claudia Taylor Johnson Marching Band swept captions and honors as it won the Class 6A competition at the 34th Rough Rider Marching Contest on Oct. 7 at Heroes Stadium.
In addition to its first-place award, CTJ was named:
Best Colorguard
Best Front Ensemble
Best Batterie
Best Soloist (Trombones)
Best Horn Line
CTJ was also given a Distinguished Performance Award for its 2017 show, “The Forest Through The Trees.”
Canyon High School (New Braunfels) was awarded second place in 6A, while Smithson Valley was third place.
This was the second Rough Rider Marching Contest for CTJ, which won in 2010 with caption awards for Best Brass, Best Woodwinds, and Best Colorguard.
Up next for CTJ is the Bands of America West Texas Regional Championship in Midland on Oct. 14.
